  1. General Audio CD Library Functions
  2.  
  3. AUDIO CD LIBRARY - DATABASE
  4.  
  5. The CD-Runner Audio CD Library database contains a master listing of 
  6. all of the Audio CDs which have been entered for use with CD-Runner. 
  7. Specific information associated with any of the CDs (e.g. image files,
  8. track descriptions, titles, etc.) may be also viewed and edited if 
  9. desired. To access the CD database, either click the "CD-Runner Audio
  10. CD Library" icon from the CD-Runner Applications window, or while
  11. running CD-Runner select the "Library" then "Database" buttons.

  13. The main database screen contains a listing of the Audio CDs; if the
  14. "Automatic Scan CD Database" option is enabled, then each time the
  15. database is accessed CD-Runner will automatically scan the contents
  16. of your CD data subdirectory and read the contents of the files. This
  17. is the preferred method as long as the time to scan the files is
  18. reasonable. If you have a lot of CDs entered and/or a slow hard 
  19. drive, then you may opt to disable this automatic scanning.

  21. If the automatic scan is disabled, then after an initial scan is 
  22. completed, a saved "database directory" is written to the hard drive. 
  23. This is then used in subsequent sessions to speed the loading of the 
  24. database, since scanning each CD file and reading its contents may be 
  25. time consuming for many files. Note that this master database 
  26. directory only needs to be re-scanned if you have added or deleted CDs.

  28. Each CD record or entry contains the database record number, artist,
  29. title and category associated with each CD. You may double-click 
  30. directly on a record to access the specific CD information stored (see
  31. below). You may also use the up or down arrow keys and press enter, or
  32. highlight the record and use the "Edit" icon.

  35. DATABASE FUNCTIONS

  37. You may use either the pulldown menus or the toolbar icons to access 
  38. the database functions. The functions (associated with the toolbar 
  39. icons from left to right) are as follows:

  41.         *SAVE - save changes made into the database directory
  42.         *SCAN - scan all CD files & display
  43.         PRINT - print database listing
  44.         UNDO - undo changes made (to the point of the last save)
  45.         ADD - add new Audio CD to the library / database
  46.         DELETE - delete existing CD file and/or database entry
  47.         SORT - sort listing by artist, title or category
  48.         FIND - find artist, title or category keywords (F3 repeats find)
  49.         FONT - change font type and/or color used for database listing
  50.         COLOR - change background color used for database listing
  51.         EXIT - exit CD database

  53. * - these functions only shown if the automatic scan is disabled (see above)

  55. AUDIO CD LIBRARY - CD
  56.  
  57. To view the Audio CD library section for a specific CD, simply click on the 
  58. "Library" button or on the red "LIB" indicator in the display window (just 
  59. above the status bar) on the Audio CD faceplate. You may also access this
  60. section when in the Audio CD Library database by selecting the CD as 
  61. described above. This will bring up the CD-Runner Audio CD Library section 
  62. which allows you to enter specific Audio CD information.

  64. In this section, you may also setup custom images for each Audio CD to be 
  65. used for screen savers, CD-Jacket art, viewers and track-synced displays 
  66. as desired. See the CD-Jacket and Images help topics for further 
  67. information.

  69. The following Audio CD entries are all optional. You may enter any or all
  70. as desired; the following categories are available:

  73. ARTIST
  74.  
  75. This is the Artist (Band, Soloist, Composer, etc.) who appears on the Audio CD.
  76. As described above, this entry will be combined with the Title when displayed.

  79. CATEGORY
  80.  
  81. You may enter a custom category to describe the Audio CD type, or select a
  82. preset category from the dropdown listing. Either type the category text in
  83. directly, or click the down-arrow to choose a preset category. If a category
  84. type is entered, it will appear in the song title box (as described below).

  87. TITLE
  88.  
  89. This is the title (or album name) of the Audio CD; this entry will appear on 
  90. the Audio CD player faceplate display at the top along with the Artist entered.
  91. If the combination of these names is very long, you may wish to change the font
  92. size and/or type used (see CD-Runner Setup - Customize option) to allow the 
  93. entire Title + Artist text to be displayed without being cut off.

  96. COMPOSER
  97. You may enter a composer associated with the Audio CD if desired. If a composer
  98. is entered, it will appear in the song title box (as described below).

  101. LINER NOTES
  102.  
  103. You may enter any desired liner notes pertaining to the Audio CD for future
  104. reference. These notes appear on the song title box display (after the song 
  105. titles & times listing) when using the Audio CD faceplate.

  108. TRACK DESCRIPTION(S)
  109.  
  110. You may enter a title or description for each track to describe the song, 
  111. movement, etc. which corresponds; as songs are played, this description will
  112. be displayed immediately below the Title + Artist text. It has been found to
  113. be useful to setup this text display with a different font type and color to
  114. more easily differentiate it from the Title + Artist text (use the CD-Runner
  115. Setup - Customize option to set).

  117. The track time displayed here is read directly from the Audio CD loaded and
  118. cannot be changed. Also, all the track descriptions entered here may be 
  119. displayed on the faceplate in a scrollable song title box by clicking on
  120. either the Title + Artist or Track Description text display directly, or by
  121. selecting it from the CD-Jacket (BMP graphics) display selection box. This
  122. box will also automatically appear if you are programming tracks, and may
  123. be used as a "second keypad"; instead on clicking on the keypad number for
  124. programming or direct track access, you may click on the track description
  125. in this box directly. You may remove this box by right clicking on it if 
  126. desired.

  129. ADVANCED (option)
  130.  
  131. The advanced option ("Advanced" button) is designed to correct for Audio CD 
  132. timing errors which may occur for a variety of reasons. Use this option ONLY
  133. if the particular Audio CD loaded either has it's song endings cut off or
  134. does not correctly update the song/track text displayed during programmed
  135. (or shuttle) playback.

  137. Valid entries here are between -3 and 5 seconds. Note that this correction
  138. is USUALLY only required for those Audio CDs whose track times cannot be
  139. accurately determined or which do not conform to the Audio CD "Redbook" 
  140. standards.
